Putting things into perspective (Astronomy 101)

Okay, just for "giggles and Grins" let's try and place our smaller (inner) planets on a table and compare them in size. If you did that here's what you would get!
...Interesting huh?
Let's try comparing the inner planets with the larger outer planets...
...Pretty impressive, huh?
Now if we compare our Sun with these outer planets and some of the inner planets, here's what we would get. But let's just say that we use a larger table and take this a few steps farther.

Okay, so if we had an even larger table and compared our Sun to some of the more distant "medium-sized" stars we would come up with something like this!

...But let's carry this a step farther, okay?
Comparing some of these "medium-sized" stars with some of the "Red Giants" that we see as little bright points of light we come up with this comparision!

Antares is the 15th brightest star in the sky.

It is more than 1000 light years away.
The universe is so vast it is not comprehensible by the human mind. It would be like an ant trying to understand the wonder of the internet. It can't be done.
The universe humbles us as it should.

...This was sent to me by another BOSTON Shipmate!!

I remember seeing something like that in an old sci-fi book,it turned out that the largest one was a speck of dust in a giants house. Our whole solar system may be the smallest one in God's universe,or a speck of dust in His eye! In the next breath we continue killing each other...in this day of learning and communication we still can't get along! How sad......
