You know someone forgot it!

You know, some things are best remembered, while other things are not. But one thing that everyone seemed to forget was that 25 years ago on January 30th 1982 the last vessel to bear the name BOSTON was commissioned.

That's right folks, we missed a chance at a mini-reunion on the silver anniversary of the commissioning! Perhaps we can have a party in Buffalo April 19th to celebrate the 27th anniversary of the launching!

...Geez, I remember that day like it was yesterday, heading down the ways backwards while standing topside!
Now
THAT was FUN!!!

Hey Bruce, how come none of the 703 crew post on the boston shipmate page? I put a topic on it hoping to get Jay or some of your "mates to reminice alittle, well lets see what happens.I wonder if alot of guys get out and could care less about talking about any of it.My Brother was on the USS Wasp he went in the year I got out 1963.He NEVER talks about it,even if we are drinking a few beers. It must have been a bad experience for him.

I just noticed your header about riding down the ways backwards, what I can't figure out is why more guys don't fall off the main dack, there is nothing to hold on to!

Ray,

I'll answer your first question first. I think the reason nobody from the 703 posts is a many-faceted answer and a bit complex. One reason is we were all worked very hard on-board and many have mixed and bitter feelings even to this day. Another reason is that our experiences were of such a personal nature that we just don't talk about these things with folks that don't or can't understand. Sometimes the experiences were so difficult that its best just to try and forget them too. Another reason is that in general bubbleheads are a very close-knit group that find it hard to associate with skimmers who (as they see it) have a whole different experience from their own. They are for the most part a bit more independent as well, which is why they don't get as involved in general navy groups. Also, keep in mind that most of the bubbleheads are only now approaching the age where they might have time for this sort of thing too. ...just my thoughts.

I se what you mean.Do you remember when we read some of the comments on the Greenville blog? I really got the feeling of stress and alot of it.I have the feeling that submariners are "pushed"to the max so as "not"to make an error that might prove drastic.
2. Why didn't you fall off the main deck?Magnetic boots? :o)

Those people you can't be nice to you sprinkle lightly with salt, seasoning and roast slowly over an open fire, taking care to turn slowly so they cook evenly.

Ya know Bruce,I would have a better chance of showing up at a Boston 703 reunion in Buffalo in April then in Memphis the way I am feeling about the "Admiral".

Unfortunately, there is no 703 reunion planned because Art has all the addresses and names and won't give them up for exactly that reason!

I understand that he wants this to be an "all BOSTON" group, but we have to find a way to get these other bubbleheads out from under their proverbial rocks!

On The shipmate site he says he shares addresses with shipmates in Good Standing and yet he has "NEVER" given me any ones address that I asked for.None (except for Freddie Ammon) have been on the ship when I was on it.I asked for Tom Rambo's email or phone number and got blown away. Instead of an "admiral" he should rename to "dictator." No relation to Wes,who is a couchtator.

I know, he's protective about his database of shipmates. I asked him once for all the addresses of all the bubbleheads and he said, "give me name and I'll give you the address" I said give me all of them and he said he can't do that, but "if I give him a name he will give me the address." How about if you give me the addresses of all the bubbleheads I served with between 1979 and 1983, he just gave me the same answer.

His database is not designed to do that, I've seen his database. ...sigh.

Are you trying to suck-up to me?...

Hey, you know there's no brown-nosing in this group!

...That could get you banned, or worse, stripped naked and roasted slowly over an open fire until you are fork-tender. Keep it up and we won't even stick an apple in your mouth either!

Everytime I get pumped up about this reunion thing Art screws it up,last year me and Lucy and Jay were really looking forward to coming then the whole thing fell apart.I will be spending about $1,000 on this reunion (as you will) with the hotel, plane tickets,Reunion events, food ect.Why go there if I have to meet up with one guy thats going to ruin it all? Those 8 people that Wes said left, got SCREWED..what a waste they could have flow to Hawaii and sat on the beach and sucked down some Mai-Tais and had more fun!

Yeah, you could be in Hawaii, drinking down a few, but you would be alone, you wouldn't be with a bunch of buddies you have not seen in about 40 years or so, telling you how much better the drinks were back then, or how cheap they were, or how good is it to see you after all these years or how seeing you made the whole trip worth it.

...then you come back the following year only to learn that he passed and to realize how much you treasured that last reunion night.

It happens, that's the way life is.

...Then you drink one to that long departed buddy vowing that your there for the people, also that you can (and will) rise up and ignore the BS!
